Firmware Version 9.2(3) for Cisco Unified IP Phone Models7911G and 7906G

The phone, as I had it, was configured to use Cisco’s SCCP ‘Skinny’ protocol, and talk to a CallManager server. I had other plans. A friend downloaded cmterm-79117906-sip.8-4-2.cop for me, which I promptly renamed to cmterm-79117906-sip.8-4-2.tar.gz. I have a cisco 7911g phone to be converted from skinny to SIP. I have the downloaded firmware with me (version 9.2.1) and followed the exact same steps as above. The phone boots and I am getting the below tftp log “Serving term06.default.loads” to 192.168.1.201″ where 192.168.1.201 is my cisco 7911g phone.

The 9.2(3) firmware image within the installation program supports the Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP) for the following Cisco Unified IP Phones :

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7911G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7906G

This firmware version is supported on Cisco Unified CallManager Release 5.0 and later, and Cisco Unified CallManager Releases 4.3, 4.2, 4.1, 4.0, and 3.3.

Note: 7906G isnot supported on 4.0, 5.0(1) and 5.0(2) Cisco Unified Call Manager releases.

Image Authentication Support

Cisco providesimage authentication with its various IP phone protocols. Imageauthentication allows the phone to detect if the image has been tampered withbefore it is programmed into the phone. If the image fails the authenticationprocess then the phone will reject the image. Image authentication occursthrough signed files. All Cisco Unified IP Phone 7911G and 7906G loads are signedand can only be upgraded or downgraded to other signed releases.

The 9.2(3)firmware uses signed (authenticated) files. This step improves IP phonesecurity on the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7911Gand 7906G.

Installing the Firmware Load

Before using the CiscoUnified IP Phone 7911G and 7906Gwith Cisco Unified CallManager release 3.3 or later,you must install the latest firmware on all Cisco Unified CallManagerservers in the cluster.

Note: If youhave a Cisco Unified CallManager on Release 3.0, 3.1,or 3.2, do NOT install this firmware. You must firstupgrade your Cisco Unified CallManager to thecompatible releases listed in Table 1 or Table2.

The 8.0(1)firmware release has been made available on Cisco Unified CallManagerinstallation CDs; however, it will not be made available on Cisco.com due toadditional bugs filed during final testing. Cisco recommends that you insteaduse the updated 9.2(3) firmware load, which is now available on Cisco.com. Thisrecommendation is limited to this specific firmware release and has no bearingon any other software or firmware available on Cisco Unified CallManager CDs.

Note: For the Cisco UnifiedIP phone 7911G and 7906G,you should not add the .loads extension to the firmware versionname in the Cisco Unified CallManager database.
